A 2011 food science graduate and product developer from Glendora, Calif., Brother Tyler Newcombe ΔΔ1433 is now head of our Alumni Association as worthy commander. As he embarks on this new responsibility, he does so with one theme in mind — a quote passed on to him from another Sigma Nu brother: “Leave the house better than when it found you.” We caught up with Tyler to learn a little bit more about him, his career and his goals for the brotherhood. Why did you join?
On-campus house, Great guys, House was in great physical condition

Tell us about your favorite memory of the fraternity.
Marrying a Little Sister - Rebecca (Becky) Lawton Hall
Hell week & the pledge/brother footbal game that we, the pledges won. Celebrated by body surfing with beer in basement.
Constructed the shelves w/mirror behind the party room bar as a pledge project.

What kind of influence has the fraternity had on your life since graduation?
Because of my fond memories, I've been active in our alumni organizations since my release from active military service in 1978.

Tell us about your family: Have you married? Do you have children?
Married at PSU in Eisenhower Chapel in June 1971. Two children: Laura Nelson Morrone (37) and Todd Nelson (33). Two granddaughters: Christa Morrone (7) & Olivia Nelson (3)

What other activities or organizations were you involved with during your college days?
None other than Sigma Nu

What is your nickname, if applicable, and how did you get it?
Nellie - don't know how I got it.

Did you live in the house? If so, who were your roommates? Tell us about a memorable time with them.
Lived in the house one year. Roomed with Bob Kellagher, Bob Greeves & Gabe Byron. Remember numerous parties including a quadrad - partied Friday nite, Saturday afternonn & Saturday nite, each at a different house. 4-square games in the parking lot. Killing a few quarter kegs. Spaghetti dinners on Saturday nite. Cooking meals (we couldn't afford a professionmal cook so we cooked for ourselves).

What do you do for a living?
I'm a supervisor with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. My group provides regulatory oversight of the uranium fuel cycle (the milling, chemical conversion, and enrichment of uranium for use in commercial and Naval nuclear reactor fuel).

What affiliations do you currently have and/or public service do you participate in?
My duties as President of the Property Association consume most of my free time.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
Canoeing; home repairs

What are your goals for the next few years?
Buy a home in State College & retire happy
